Since taking over Wexham Park Hospital in 2014, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust has brought about a remarkable turnaround, with the CQC now recognising a strong patient safety culture at the hospital. Avoidable harm rates have been significantly reduced, a ‘Sign up to Safety’ campaign saw 500 staff make personal pledges to improve safety and formal complaints at Heatherwood and Wexham Park fell by 62 per cent over the last year.

The identification and treatment of sepsis is exemplary at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. A set of six internationally recognised clinical interventions are performed within the first hour of diagnosis. These, including early prescription of antibiotics and administering oxygen, have helped to increase survival by up to 30 per cent.
